Job Description / Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

Risk Management Domain

  • Design, preparation, implementation, and monitoring of risk management policies and procedures for the UK trading/investment and e-money business (covering financial, operational, conduct, technology, market, legal and regulatory risks and including management and testing of the related risk appetite for these areas).
  • Ensure all significant risks that the TBanque UK entities are, or maybe, exposed to are identified and assessed, identifying any gaps
  • Monitoring of the adequacy and effectiveness of the company’s risk management policies and procedures. 
  • Review and challenge risk assessments performed by operational units, and assess the effectiveness of mitigating controls
  • Formulation and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators (“KRIs”), producing and distributing relevant management information (“MI”) on a periodic basis as required.
  • Formulation and monitoring of Key Performance Indicator (“KPIs”), to ensure risk management related systems and controls are operating as expected and relevant MI is available at any time
  • Implement, manage and monitor the risk registers for the respective entities.
  • Preparation of the investment firm’s ICARA and the e-money business annual Operational and Security Risk Reports for the regulator
  • Assist the finance department in the periodic production of MIFIDPRU capital adequacy returns.
  • Preparation of written materials for Risk and Audit Committee (“RaC”) meetings and Board meetings, and subsequent presentation of such materials. This role will be formally instated as a member of the Firm’s RaC. Preparation of formal agenda and minutes at RaC meetings shall also be required.
  • Working on data projects – construction and analysis of reports.
  • Liaising with operational units on risk management matters and fostering a culture of risk management by design
  • Contribute to risk management projects and undertake, with the relevant stakeholders across the business, risk assessments for launching new features and products in a considered and safe manner
  • Ongoing monitoring and oversight of regulatory developments relevant to risk management framework.
  • Acting as coordinator across all relevant regulated and non-regulated entities within the TBanque Group in respect of all risk management related activity specific to the UK trading/investment and e-money business, including attendance and/or membership of appropriate Group committees.
  • Acting as the point of contact between the risk function and relevant external vendors (where required).
  • Coordinating the periodic refresh of function-specific enterprise-wide risk assessments, ensuring all new risks are identified and residual risk sits within risk appetite/tolerance.
  • Assisting in thematic and ad-hoc regulatory enquiries where required.
  • Seeking continuous improvement to streamline risk management processes and achieving industry best practice in all related activities (utilising technology solutions where appropriate).


Market Surveillance Domain

  • Assuming the role of market surveillance “subject matter expert” for the entire TBanque global domain.
  • Acting as coordinator across all relevant regulated and non-regulated entities in respect of all market surveillance activity.
  • Establishing and chairing the TBanque Group “Market Surveillance Committee” – a periodic forum for presenting management information, discussing market abuse typologies/new alerts, alert model threshold reviews etc.
  • Acting as the point of contact between the business, compliance and risk functions and relevant external vendors (where required).
  • Coordinating the periodic refresh of enterprise-wide market surveillance risk assessments, ensuring all new risks are identified and residual risk sits within risk appetite/tolerance.
  • Acting as point of contact between the compliance, “RegTech”, trading and operations functions within TBanque Group.
  • Compiling a monthly “MAR report” for the global compliance function – to be presented during Market Surveillance Committee meetings.
  • Administration and delivery of internal training, circulation of relevant topical updates in respect of the market surveillance domain.
  • Assisting in the configuration of 3rd-party and internal software applications, updating threshold sensitivities, and configuring new alerts as required.
  • Coordinating the annual review and refresh of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in thematic and ad-hoc regulatory enquiries where required.
  • Compiling management information for presentation to the management body, and Risk and Audit committees of the various Group regulated entities as required.
  • Assist in the ongoing review of TBanque Group employee personal account transaction monitoring.
  • Seeking continuous improvement to streamline market surveillance processes and achieving industry best practice in all related activities.
  • Proactively identifying situations that may pose material risk and assist the Chief Compliance and Operations Officer in the development/review/updating of relevant policies, procedures, and business practices.
  • Ensuring that the Firm maintains accurate, detailed and up to date records across all areas of the Firm’s business.
  • Utilising technology to innovate and aid compliance.
  • Ensuring that knowledge/market intelligence is kept up to date. Carry out effective horizon scanning, disseminating information across the relevant stakeholders.

The preferred candidate will have previously worked within a (retail) investment products environment (as a minimum) and ideally will have also had material exposure to electronic money institution (“EMI”), Payment Services Provider (“PSP”) or card issuing activities, with experience of a wide range of the risk management remit – including assessing the various risks associated with innovative business model and definition of risk management frameworks accordingly. Additionally, the desired candidate will possess experience of a wide range of the market surveillance remit and/or a significant grasp of the mechanics of financial markets execution principles – including assessing the various risks associated with innovative business models and configuration of market surveillance systems.

The preferred candidate is articulate, numerate and can grasp complex concepts with ease, all of which whilst working within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Priorities often change at the last minute and sometimes, information is required at short notice. You must be comfortable working within this kind of environment.

The candidate should be educated to university degree level. Due to the global nature of the business, additional languages are advantageous but not essential.

In summary, the requirements are as follows:

  • Strong knowledge of retail investment products, crypto assets, EMI/PSP/card issuing activities. Must have worked in such environments previously.
  • Previous experience (>5 years) as a risk manager and domain expert within a comparable environment.
  • Possess a deep understanding of risk and risk management systems.
  • Possess a deep understanding of execution models and order management systems and will ideally have had exposure to a trading function in the past (and ideally a deep understanding of trade surveillance typologies).
  • In general, be able to command respect and be seen as a source of knowledge in his/her particular discipline.
  • Be able to compile clearly articulated risk assessments in a Group-prescribed format.
  • Organised and articulate.
  • Possess technical skills such as SQL, VBA to aid in the analysis of data.
  • Be capable of showing an impressive track-record of having performed under similar situations in a fast-paced, multi-regulated, multi-asset environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of ICAAP/ICARA preparation, wind-down and liquidity plans.
  • Knowledge and experience of Operational Resilience and Conduct Risk management frameworks and best practice.
  • Experience of working with 3rd-party market data tools – in particular, Bloomberg.
  • Knowledge and experience of the UK FCA MAR regime.
  • Experience with market surveillance software applications.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; must be comfortable communicating with senior management and external advisers.
  • University-level education.   
  • Multiple languages are also advantageous.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
